Chevrolet Silverado 2012

Chevrolet Silverado 2012

Capability and efficiency

The Silverado 1500 lineup is built on GM's full-size truck architecture, which supports a smooth ride and confident handling. A lineup of powerful small-block V-8 engines and six-speed automatic transmissions complement the strong chassis by enabling a maximum payload capacity of 1,937 pounds (879 kg) on the 2WD crew cab (with the Max Trailering Package).

When equipped with the available Max Trailering Package and the 6.2L V8, the Silverado 1500 can tow up to 10,700 pounds (4,853 kg).

Thanks to ongoing development and fuel-saving technologies such as Active Fuel Management and variable valve timing, Chevrolet Silverado's mainstream 5.3-liter V8 is highly competitive in fuel economy.

Lotus Evora

Lotus Evora

What does Lotus know about handling that eludes the rest of the world? It's a question we asked ourselves after an exhilarating mountain-road romp in the new Evora. While this Lotus makes several concessions to practicality, such as a small rear seat and even cruise control, essentially it's a driver's car. And for 2011, there's nothing better on the road. Those with the means will enjoy a connection between the car and the road that borders on telepathic. The steering effort linearly increases as the cornering forces build, and the suspension impeccably keeps the tires squarely planted on the road. The result is a car with high but accessible cornering limits, a sports car that makes even novice drivers feel like heroes. Even better, the Evora smashes the notion that good handling and a supple ride are mutually exclusive—it's cushy enough to drive to work, yet incredibly entertaining on curvy roads and racetracks.

Ford Fiesta

Ford Fiesta

Just about anybody can make a car fuel efficient with the aid of an electric motor, a generator or two and a few hundred lithium batteries. But it takes some real skill to achieve up to 40 mpg—and a 400-mile range—from a good ol'-fashioned internal combustion engine. Not that the Ford Fiesta is exactly old-fashioned. After all, it comes with a dual-clutch transmission and electric power-assisted steering, and its 1.6-liter 16-valve four-cylinder Duratec generates 120 hp with the help of variable-cam timing. In the interest of full disclosure, however, the really remarkable mileage figure is achieved when customers elect to ditch the five-speed manual transmission and spend another $1070 to pair the engine to the optional PowerShift, a six-speed dual-clutch automatic that boosts the car's EPA mileage ratings to 29 mpg city/40 mpg highway.

2012 Nissan GT-R

2012 Nissan GT-R

Engine

By improving the Nissan GT-R's engine efficiency, its fuel economy has been decreased from 12L to 11.8L/100 Kms, while engine output rises significantly from 390kW to 404kW (550PS) from 6,400rpm with maximum torque of from 612 to 632Nm (64.5kgfm) from 3,200 to 5,800 rpm.

Engine response and torque at mid- and low-speeds, and power at high revolutions, has been significantly improved, mainly due to:

  1. Improved intake efficiency
  2. Better air flow resistance, which has been reduced by the addition of an intake manifold fitted to the head of each unit and the use of resin in the enlarged air intake duct for the intercooler
  3. Improved exhaust emissions efficiency and enhanced control
  4. Reduced air flow resistance thanks to a more compact under floor catalyzer which improves emissions efficiency and reduces weight
  5. Improved exhaust valve cooling performance by the adoption of a newly-designed metallic sodium-filled valve. At the same time, valve control timing, the air mixture ratio and ignition timing have been improved

Toyota GT 86

Design

The design of the Toyota GT 86 successfully works within the technical constraints of achieving the most compact dimensions possible, a low centre of gravity and aerodynamic performance inspired by motorsport technology, while also displaying evocative, sweeping styling that recalls Toyota's sports car heritage.

Toyota's new design language informs the styling, as in the way attention is focused on the lower part of the car with the large lower grille. Elsewhere the "keen" approach can be witnessed in the clear, expressive lines.

The lower grille's "scorpion" look gives the Toyota GT 86 a more powerful appearance, with further sporting details including the model-specific 17-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, twin exhausts and the "86" piston logo that denotes the car's special powertrain configuration.

Mazda CX-7

Mazda CX-7

Interior Design - Enhanced Quality Feel

SUV roominess and practicality, combined with an ergonomic cockpit, sporty touches and high craftsmanship, were an appealing combination of the original Mazda CX-7. The facelift has all this plus updates that are meant to enhance the interior's quality look and feel even further. There is a new trim and dashboard material with dimples and round edges that give these surfaces a higher quality feel and make them more dirt resistant. The steering wheel is newly designed and includes more control buttons. The instrument cluster in front of the driver gets new dials and white pointers for a three-dimensional look, and new blue-ring illumination.

Stretching across the dashboard is a redesigned double-roof hood. It now rises in the middle to make room for a new Multi-Information Display (MID). The audio panel is also updated with either piano black or metal-look edging on the sides.

Jaguar XKR Convertible

Jaguar XKR Convertible

The Jaguar XKR Special Edition pairs the optional Speed and Black Packs to create the bold new model unveiled in Geneva, which also sports optional Piano Black veneers on the dashboard and red brake callipers. Both option packs are also available separately for customers who seek to personalise their cars in terms of either styling or additional performance. Whatever combination is chosen, every Jaguar XKR delivers that classic Jaguar blend of seductive, powerful and elegant looks, beautifully finished interiors and even more comprehensive specification.

The driver is the centre of attention in the Jaguar XKR Special Edition, with exciting new features including the acclaimed JaguarDrive Selector™, and high levels of specification such as the 7-inch Touch-Screen, 16-way heated and cooled memory seats, Jet Suedecloth premium headlining and Flint Grey premium carpet. In addition, a bespoke new Jaguar XK suitcase (which will be available as an option for all XK models) has been fashioned for the Jaguar XKR Special Edition. From 2010, the Jaguar XK range (UK and certain European markets only) will be fitted with the tyre repair Instant Mobility System. By adopting IMS on all models, the XK frees up its 30-litre wheel well, which is now carpeted and can hold the specially designed and tailored XK accessory suitcase, substantially increasing the versatility of the car.

Chevrolet Volt Price

Chevrolet Volt Price

The Chevrolet Volt is in a class by itself

The Chevrolet Volt is not a hybrid. It is a one-of-a-kind, all-electrically driven vehicle designed and engineered to operate in all climates. Powered by GM's revolutionary Voltec propulsion system, it consists of a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and electric drive unit that provide pure electric range between 25 and 50 miles, depending on terrain, driving techniques and temperature. A 1.4L gasoline-powered engine extends the range up to an additional 310 miles on a full tank of fuel by operating the vehicle's electric drive system until the car can be plugged in and recharged or refueled. This distinguishes the Volt from electric-only vehicles, which cannot be operated when recharging is not immediately available - such as during a power interruption or on a long-distance trip.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Bicolore

Individual characters in one model range

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Bicolore completes Lamborghini's ten-cylinder model range, which is enjoying enormous resonance worldwide with its broad spectrum of individual characters. While the Gallardo LP560-4 is already a highly trained, extreme athlete, the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera takes the notion of thoroughbred high performance even further. Thanks to its extensive experience in carbon-fiber lightweight engineering, Lamborghini succeeded in reducing its weight by a further 70 kilograms. At 2.35 kilograms per hp, the power-to-weight ratio of the Superleggera is the best in its class, with breathtaking performance guaranteed.

The Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder, on the other hand, offers a very different kind of extreme driving pleasure - every trip with the roof down is a journey with a hurricane, yet with maximum protection. This can only be bettered - in true Lamborghini style - by the Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante. Its purist carbon-fiber lightweight engineering, according to Lamborghini's tradition, adds an even sharper edge to the dynamics.

The new range arrives with zero price increases for the Altise at $30,490 and the range-topping Atara SL at $39,990, which replaces the Grande.

Price increases for Atara S (replaces Ateva) and Atara SX (Sportivo) are outweighed by added features.

Toyota Australia senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner said the keen pricing delivers even better value to consumers.

"New Camry has the sharp styling, advanced safety, dynamic driving performance, interior space and quietness, comprehensive features, low cost of ownership and exceptional value demanded by Australian drivers," Mr Buttner said.

Alpina BMW D3

Alpina BMW D3

"It has phenomenal pull," was the first impression that Andreas Bovensiepen had of the BMW 320d race-diesel that he raced along with Hans Stuck, Marc Duez and Christian Menzel. Together they took the overall win in none other than the 1998 24 Hours of Nurburgring, the track whose North Loop was and is referred to as the "Green Hell". This remains the biggest racing victory for a diesel-fired vehicle to date, with thanks going to Alpina BMW D3 an intelligent package made up of high torque, high fuel economy and finely-honed aerodynamics
